MAPS Structural Elements
MAPS has the following structural elements: categories, groups, rules, and policies.
The following table provides a brief description of MAPS structural element.
Element
Description
Action
What MAPS will do if a condition defined in a rule evaluates to true.
Category
A grouping of similar elements that can be monitored (for example, “Security Violations”).
Condition
A condition includes a time base and a threshold. If the condition is evaluated as true, the rule is triggered. The condition depends on the element that is to be monitored.
Measure
A value that can be monitored. This includes switch conditions, data traffic levels, error messages, and many other values.
Object
An object that can be monitored. This includes FC ports, SFP transceivers, local switch, flow, and other values.
Group
A collection of similar objects that you can monitor as a single entity. For example, you can create a group of E_Ports to be monitored by the same policies.
Rule
A rule associates a condition with one or more actions that need to occur when the specified condition is triggered.
Policy
A set of rules defining thresholds for triggering the actions MAPS takes when that threshold is triggered. When a policy is activated, all rules in the policy are in effect.
